Once again we arrive at Previews week. For many of this is the most exciting week of the month as it is when the majority of people see what is coming two months from now in the world of comics, games and toys. Most of our subscribers use Previews every month to ensure that they aren’t missing out on the comics they really want. Because the indy market is so large and diverse we can’t carry everything and because of that we sometimes miss out on a great series or graphic novel. If you want to ensure that you can get a copy of everything you want Previews is the way to do that.
This looks like the best week for collected edition trades and hardcovers in the history of ever! The first volume of the Fables Deluxe Edition HC arrives this week and if it looks anything like the Y The Last Man hardcover you are doing yourself a disservice by not picking one up. Not only is Fables one of the best comics of the past 10 years (maybe EVER) it’s also one of the most beautiful. This collects the first ten issues of the series which includes the story arcs Legends in Exile and Animal Farm. You get a murder mystery and a civil war all in one book. How can you top that?
With the Hellboy Library Edition Vol 3 of course! The first two of these share a spot of honor on my shelf at home. They are absolutely gorgeous books that contain some of the best paranormal noir ever written. HP Lovecraft wishes he had come up with characters this vivid and three dimensional. Creator Mike Mignola does borrow somewhat from the Cthulhu mythos and definitely invokes that feeling of dread in many of his stories. His characters aren’t the defeated, abused, on the edge of insanity types that Lovecraft liked to write about. There are a ton of extra pages with sketches and notes from Mignola that fans of the series will absolutely love.
I found it a little odd that when I misspelled Cthulhu the spell checker caught it. Does that mean the spell checker is evil? Man, I’m not going to be able to turn my back on the computer now.
