I was talking to a subscriber on Friday night and he asked what I thought the best team book from Marvel and DC was. I instantly answered “Guardians of the Galaxy” for Marvel but it took me a minute to come up with the DC book. I mentioned Justice Society and how even though it is still a fantastic read its lost a step since Willingham took over. Then I started talking about the beautiful Justice League Cry for Justice and how I can’t wait until James Robinson and Mark Bagley take over the struggling regular Justice League title. I felt a little stumped at that point. While I think both JSA and Cry for Justice are great books I don’t think I can call them the “best” that DC has to offer. He then asked “Didn’t you mention Secret Six to me a while back” and suddenly the answer was clear. “Yes!” I exclaimed, “That is it!” I can’t believe the book slipped my mind. Secret Six is the go to book for well rounded characters with quirks and foibles and sure, they are all kind of bad guys but really who isn’t these days. Seriously, when was the last time anyone made Bane a must read character? You can count on one hand how many “classic” Cat Man stories there are and yet he is continually interesting and entertaining. And don’t even get me started on Rag Doll. No, I mean it. That little dude is weird (and hilarious).
