![]() Greetings from under the black 200X Resistol hat from a very proud and happy Oklahoma Sooners fan after watching OU defeat Colorado for the Big XII Championship Saturday night in Houston. Now I'm preparing to head down to the Sunshine State of Florida for this Sunday's Armageddon and two days of TV from, hopefully, the sunny skies in Orlando and Tampa. And greetings from the sleep-deprived mind of NormanB, who is watching the Steelers put the stomp on Carolina as we speak. Oh yeah, and I'm off to Hooter's to "enjoy" the PPV the WWF named after your truly (I swear), suck down some wings, watch everybody but me enjoy delicious cold Yuengling Lagers and hopefully lure one of the waitresses back to my house for dirty, dirty genital olympics. I have a very positive feeling (no wisecracks from the cynical minority out there) (Excuse me? Did he just say MINORITY? as in "the millions and millions of viewers you've lost in 2 years "minority?" Fucking ass. Stupid fucking ass.) about this Sunday's show from Ft. Lauderdale, which is a combined effort of the RAW and SmackDown! rosters. Seems as if over the last two weeks we have built noticeable momentum on our TV broadcasts for Sunday's event on pay-per-view, especially with a nice focus on the respective main events.(Wouldn't know. You drove me away from your shitty shit television show about two months ago. And before you ask, yes I realize that this represents a conflict of interest, not watching the shows, yet harshly criticizing the WWF. If any readers are unhappy with this, please contact Barbwire Mike for a full refund of your Lethal subscription fees.) I am looking forward to both the Shawn Michaels vs. Triple H two-out-of-three-falls match with the three different stipulations for the World Heavyweight Title, as well as the contest between the Big Show and Kurt Angle for the WWE Title. Both will be very different presentations, I have to believe, and have had solid buildups leading into Armageddon. And both will probably lead to the wrong person going over and/or highly dissatisfying finishes. Chris Benoit vs. Eddie Guerrero could steal the show, and the four-team elimination Tag Team Title Match, not unlike any other multiple team presentation, has the chance to be very good or very average. I look for this RAW contribution to be closer to very good than anything else because of the talent involved in the match and the story behind the teams, as well. Thank Jebus for Eddie G vs. Benoit. Please give them some time. This is the match I am most anticipating. The tag match could play out pretty well. Lots of strong workers in that match. The women's Triple Threat Title bout has the chance to be very entertaining, as the ladies seem to have been building some nice momentum over the past several weeks, highlighted by Victoria's exposure on RAW. There will be no other match on this event where the participants will put out more effort than the three ladies in this one. RAW has done an excellent job building the anticipation for this presentation in my opinion. Presentation? They're not called "matches" anymore? Oh well. Somebody find me some nudes of Victoria already. She's all purty 'n stuff. Edge versus A-Train (formerly known as Albert) is a great opportunity for both talents, who have definitely been on different paths until recently. This could be one of the "dark horse" matches of the pay-per-view. Prediction for this match: SUCKING DARK HORSE BALLS. I know a great deal of effort is being put forth from many folks within WWE preparing for Sunday's pay-per-view, and we intend to make our last pay-per-view effort of the year the very best broadcast possible. I hope you check it out. I hope it sucks, giving me more to bitch about and driving away even more of your rapidly dwindling audience. Good seeing Hollywood Hulk Hogan in Atlanta Tuesday afternoon prior to his book signing there. Hogan was backstage only for a few minutes before leaving to do a book signing in Atlanta. Contrary to what was reported elsewhere on the Internet, Hogan did not have a meeting with WWE officials, but did visit and say hello with many folks for the short time he was at the Philips Arena. Hogan's book is continuing to do well in stores, and his book signings have been very successful, with the WWE icon staying and signing every autograph, which is the classy thing to do. The internet is full of bad lying bad people. The WWF has no interest in lying. Just like there were NEVER any meetings with Steiner prior to his signing.. NO NO NO NEVER. (oops, we signed him). Fucking liar. Not sure of the motivation of some individuals who "leak" erroneous information to the wrestling media, especially as it relates to the contract status of certain talents. I read this week where we are looking to make some roster cuts with names mentioned. What purpose does it serve discussing this type of information to anyone outside WWE? I feel very badly for the talents whose names appeared in error because of "sources say." We are constantly evaluating our roster with the goal to always maximize it and make it the best we possibly can, so making roster cuts is not the news some perceive it to be. I can certainly understand when we get taken to task for a broadcast that is perceived to be not great, or virtually anything else we do for public consumption, because our fans certainly have a right to express themselves. But these contractual matters, I feel, should be off limits, because they more often than not are wrong and it upsets wrestlers and their families for no reason. Anyone "leaking" this sort of info has major issues to deal with, it would seem to me.
Get down off the soap box you old fuck, before I knock you off with a goddam lead pipe. Nothing is off limits. Learn it. Accept it. Live with it. I laugh at the thought of Justin Credible's wife yelling at him as he walks through the door because she read online that he's getting fired. Sleep on the couch Justin!
Rey Mysterio is healing well from getting his knee 'scoped recently by Dr. Jim Andrews and is scheduled to be able to return to the ring in early- to mid-January. Rey has been a super addition to our roster, and we look for more Victoria got her "bell rung" on RAW but is good to go as I write this report. This is one tough cookie who is making the most of her well-deserved opportunity in WWE. Lord knows she has paid her dues in our developmental program since moving from California. And if you look at her closely, you can still see the stretch marks around her mouth from all the "dues" she "paid." It is expected that Rhyno will be given a full release from his neck surgery around Jan. 7, and he will continue to spend time in OVW knocking off the ring rust and working on his conditioning until he is called back to TV. I am not sure which roster Rhyno will be a part of, but whoever gets him will be better for it. And just how much can Rhino get over without Paul Heyman on commentary to make him look like a million bucks? That my friend, is the question. Tajiri is not quite 100 percent from a severe ankle sprain but will be available for in-ring work if needed. And I am 100 percent certain that drudging through the injury report makes me want to kill myself and others around me. Edge has been unbooked from live events the last two weekends to allow his injured knee to improve. The rest and therapy have helped, and he will be close to 100 percent come Armageddon. Just in time to be jobbed to big hairy Albert-Train. Toot toot! I saw injured Mark Jindrak this past week at TV, and even though the youngster is on crutches, he remains positive. Mark will be back to 100 percent in a few months from his ankle ligament injury. Before he was injured, Jindrak was making great strides, and we hope he picks up where he left off when he returns.
Eric Angle is experiencing more injury issues. This time it is his shoulder, which probably will need to be 'scoped in the next week or so.
Nick Dinsmore, an Ohio Valley Wrestling competitor, should be able to return to the ring in early January, on schedule from his knee surgery.
We have several talents on the injured list, much to everyone's dismay, and we look forward, as they do, to them being healthy and ready to contribute once again to the product. I think the worst feeling a wrestler can have is to be physically unable to perform, but the good news is that we will be getting back some terrific talents over the next couple of months. And the bad news is that your ratings will probably have fallen down below a 3.0 by the time those injured talents come back. HA HA! Scott Steiner will be wrestling on the SmackDown! event in Jacksonville, Fla., this Saturday night, even though he apparently declared for RAW on Thursday's SmackDown! Scott had already been scheduled for Jacksonville and will keep his obligation to those who purchase tickets to see him compete. Folks, that Scotty Steiner is truly an American hero. He just gives and gives and gives, thinking only of others (except for all of those times he attacked fans, co-workers and hairless, blind newborn puppies.) Charlie Haas and Shelton Benjamin have had some impressive outings in recent WWE events, and I look for these two young blue-chip prospects to contribute a great deal to the product sooner than later. These are two quality athletes with college degrees -- Charlie from Seton Hall and Shelton from Minnesota. I hope we can continue to attract this type of athlete in the future. Lord knows you need a college degree to climb into a casket and dry hump a crash test dummy. I am beginning to really enjoy the dynamic between Victoria and Steven Richards. Something tells me this pair has an excellent chance to get more than a cup of coffee's worth of exposure on RAW. That would kind of make sense, so you can expect the exact opposite to actually play out. William Regal and Lance Storm seem to be as effective as any tag team in WWE when it comes down to their in-ring work. These two would probably be very well served to be able to be heard more often, and I am sure that will be the case in the next few weeks. Either that or they will fall victim to lazy booking and break up, just so they can jerk the curtain at the next PPV. Nice few weeks of TV for veteran Bill DeMott on SmackDown! Nothing bad to say here. I've always been a fan of Hugh Morrus, even back in the Dungeon of Doom days. He's a completely underrated worker. I don't think I would trade Los Guerreros for any tag team in the world right now. Not even if one of the wrestlers on that tag team were Bill Goldberg? Oh that's right, you're not negotiating with him either, you lying fuck. The possibility of Brock Lesnar being in Kurt Angle's corner this Sunday at Armageddon in the WWE Title match is intriguing. Considering their backgrounds, I'm not sure anyone in the business could handle Kurt and Brock if they ever became affiliated. One thing is for sure, someday it is inevitable that these two will go at it, and I want to be there to see it! And I'm sure the 750,000 viewers you have by Wrestlemania will want to see it too! John Cena and his "dawg," B-2, are doing very well on SmackDown!, from where I sit. Cena's rapping ability is very marketable, and both men are in great physical condition and ready to step up.
Cena and Buchanon = Too Cool 2003. I could come up with a better angle for these two in twenty seconds:
How about:
Cena-3PO and B2-D2?
MAD OVER WITH THE SCI-FI CROWD, YO! And both of these bright young men have college degrees! We really need to attract more men of their caliber!@!11!!!! No word on when the Undertaker will be returning to the ring, but I can't see having the Royal Rumble on Jan. 19 in Boston without him. But, of course, that's my opinion and I could be wrong. Yeah, I can't see that either. It would be oh so terrible. But hopefully when he does return, he'll bring along an inexplicable music and gimmick change! I am very pleased that Albert has undergone a name change to A-Train.
Nice seeing Mr. Jim Barnett down in Atlanta on Tuesday. Jim, a longtime wrestling promoter and executive, is one of the most interesting characters I have ever been associated with in the business, and I would love to read his biography if it were ever published. Other than his failing eyesight, Mr. Barnett is feeling great.
Our developmental group in Louisville, OVW, continues to do a great job for WWE. We stress fundamental skills and philosophies there, and we have several top prospects learning the ropes, so to speak. We are stressing in the coaching there that the talents slow down their presentations somewhat and utilize more wrestling holds -- essentially, getting back to the basics and developing better fundamental skills, which is rapidly becoming a lost art. Tom Prichard, Rip Rogers and Rocky Johnson will be working with these young prospects again after the first of the year. The injured Big Boss Man will rejoin them at some point. Our road agents also travel to OVW on a regular basis to work with talent. I am very proud of the job our folks do in the developmental area but, as always, there is plenty of room for improvement. I think 2003 will be a great year for many of developmental talents to be called up to WWE and provided with the opportunity many of them have been working toward for a long time. To check out what's going on in OVW and their upcoming tryout/training camp in February, log on to OVWrestling.com. Jim Cornette and Danny Davis continue to do great things for WWE, and their weekly TV program is fun to watch. Time the fuck out. "We are stressing in the coaching there that the talents slow down their presentations somewhat and utilize more wrestling holds" Pay attention JR. This is why your company is failing. You mistakenly believe that crowds today will only pop if wrestlers put their life on the line while executing dangerous moves. Therefore, you slow down the matches, forcing the crowd to adapt to you more "story-focused" (read: BORING) in-ring presentations. We don't want to see Triple H and the Undertaker lumbering around the ring doling out high knees and big dumb punches like they're going out of style. We want dynamic, athletic, fast-paced matches from the likes of Kurt Angle, RVD, Chris Benoit, and Eddie G You are rewarding sloth and punishing innovation and athleticism. CAN YOU NOT SEE THIS? The RAW 10th anniversary television special on Tuesday, Jan. 14 on the new TNN is going to be huge! The list of talents, old and new, who have and are a part of RAW is immense and impressive. It will be interesting to see who accepts WWE's invitation to be a part of this live TV event. Green-room conversations could be priceless. I may watch this. Then again, if anybody can find a way to fuck up a clip show, it's the WWF! Sorry to hear about the deaths of Tim "Mr. Wrestling" Woods and George "The Baby Blimp" "Two Ton" Harris recently in Charlotte, N.C. Woods was a great amateur and a top hand for years in our business and was very well respected throughout the industry. Harris worked for Jim Crockett Promotions for years after being a solid antagonist in many territories for several years.
No sense in making fun of dead people. There's still a shred of decency in my otherwise rotten soul
Who am I kidding?
I am making plans to spend New Year's Day in Pasadena, Calif., to see the Sooners take on the Washington State Cougars in the granddaddy of all bowl games, the Rose Bowl. Can't wait to actually see a game in the famed Rose Bowl, especially considering it will be OU's first-ever trip to this particular bowl. There is nothing like spending New Year's Eve with the rowdy Oklahoma football fans, who will invade California for a few days in late December/early January. It was really a thrill for me to be on the sideline at the Big XII title game and to be invited into the Sooners' locker room after their championship victory in Houston Saturday night. The entire football team has really treated me great this season, and I sincerely appreciate being a part of the Sooner football family. Blah blah blah. Oklahoma BOOMER Okies. Blah blah blah. I think you are going to enjoy the photos we are in the process of selecting for our upcoming cookbook. Longtime fans will especially enjoy some of the vintage shots we have selected. That was a close one JR! You almost closed off your weekly fountain of propaganda without plugging your latest personal project. Whew! It is always great to be in Florida this time of the year, and I think Armageddon Sunday is going to be a pleasant surprise for all of us and deliver more than expected. As I said earlier, I just have a gut feeling (no jokes, please) that this is going to end up being one helluva pay-per-view. Proof is in the pudding, as Granny used to say, so we will see if my premonition is accurate come Sunday night at 8 ET/5 PT. Take care and I hope to see you back here next week. I'm looking forward to horribly disappointing main events. Proove me wrong. I beg of you. J.R. (Boomer Sooner!!)
I'll be back later in the week with a Armageddon wrap-up. Later.
